ByrneIt’s hard to believe that our conference was over a month ago. I still find myself thinking about good friends and colleagues, wishing that I could see them again soon. How often do you get to vent to a colleague about a problem in supervision or quirky software and have them really understand?

This year’s theme, Evidence-Based Practice and Technology: Innovations in Implementation, seemed to have broad appeal.  Members gave presentations that showed us how incorporating technology into our clinics can increase accountability among trainees and supervisors alike, and how we can help trainees turn competent behaviors into habit. Other members showed how technology can facilitate communication and dissemination of important information. All of the above have potential to improve the quality of training we provide as Clinic Directors and to improve patient care, as well. Dr. Santisteban presented on a novel approach for making technology and evidence-based treatment helpful for real people as they exist within the community rather than solely in the confines of a controlled research setting.

Lastly, we saw presentations that were inspirational examples of professional development to which we can aspire as Clinic Directors. It’s a reminder that we can find a balance between the science of evidence-based practice and the art of building a strong therapeutic  alliance.

In looking back on our accomplishments this year, I also want to highlight APTC’s efforts to strengthen the group through international connections. Many thanks to Dr. Lourdes Corado for making the journey all the way from Universidad Francisco Marroquin  in Guatemala. By the way, we need to get Judy Hyde back next year! Who wants to twist her arm?

Before I conclude, I hope you will consider becoming Facebook friends with Phyllis Terry Friedman. She has offered her FB page as a starting point for connecting with APTC members. Social media is a great way to connect and share multimedia content with friends and colleagues. As an added bonus, you will get to view many adorable cat videos.

I’ll “see” you on the listserv.
