President’s Column
Colleen Byrne, Ph.D.

It seems like just yesterday that I was a brand new Clinic Director attending an APTC meeting for the first time. Although it was scary being new, I distinctly recall the welcoming spirit of APTC members. Their willingness to share experiences and resources put me at ease. Since then, membership in APTC has been the single most valuable aspect of my professional development.

Before officially taking over as President, I want to offer heartfelt thanks to Eric Sauer for his steadfast leadership and mentorship. I’m happy to say that he’s only a phone call away. Also, I want to thank Erica Wise, Don Morgan, and Glen Ashekanzi for all of their hard work as they rotate off the Executive Committee. You can run, but you can’t hide! I know where all of you work.

In my time as President, I hope to keep all the aspects of APTC in place that make us great. It is also my hope that we can become more visible to the field. I would like us to increase our exposure to other psychology organizations. No group is better suited to make suggestions regarding the training of doctoral level psychologists. We have the ground-level, hands-on experience of those that have borne the battle. I also look forward to working with President-Elect Tony Cellucci who is heading our liaison efforts so that we can expand our influence within psychology.

Even though many of us might struggle with the difference between a post, text, or tweet, the next generation of psychologists is seriously plugged in. In order to stay relevant to that group and the next, APTC needs to step up its digital game. Thanks to those that have already joined the Social Networking Committee and to Don Morgan and Lettie Flores for agreeing to lead. In the next two years, I expect that you will find APTC in every communication medium that exists.

Please know that I am always available. Happy Spring!

Respectfully,
Colleen
